The Gathering Table

Across Africa, food is more than what is served on a plate. It is family, hospitality, history, celebration, and connection. Recipes and cooking traditions have traveled through generations, carrying the stories of communities from West, East, North, Central, and Southern Africa.

The Gathering Table celebrates that incredible diversity. There is no single “African cuisine.” Across the continent, different regions, countries, and communities have developed their own ingredients, techniques, flavors, and traditions.

Here, guests can discover everything from jollof rice, suya, egusi and fufu to injera and wat, tagines and couscous, nyama choma, peri-peri, grilled fish, plantains, breads, stews, street foods, sweets, and drinks. Fire, spice, grains, vegetables, meats, seafood, sauces, and slow-cooked dishes all tell different stories about where they come from.

But at the center of it all is something universal: the table.

A place to gather. A place to welcome people. A place where elders share traditions, families celebrate, friends connect, and another generation discovers the flavors that came before them.

At Taste DMV, The Gathering Table is our celebration of Africa through food, culture, and community—honoring its many regions while giving guests an opportunity to taste, learn, explore, and come together.
